抄録 | This thesis consists of five chapters. The first chapter is a chronological discussion of Hsuan-Tsang's life. In chapter two, the philosophical and doctrinal development of the Yogacara-Vijnana Sect in both India and China are briefly described. In addition, the role that Hsuan-Tsang played in establishing the Chinese Fa-Hsiang school is also discussed. Chapter three focuses mainly on the development of Chinese Buddhist scriptural translation and Hsuan-Tsang's contribution to it. In fourth chapter, Paramartha's influence on Hsuan-Tsang is discussed. The fifth chapter explores Hsuan-Tsang's relationship with Emperor T'ai-Tsung of the T'ang Dynasty. In addition to emphasizing the importance of Hsuan-Tsang's work to the spread of Buddhism in China, events that hindered the work of scripture translation are also mentioned. |
