抄録 | 續法為清代華嚴宗的中興教主,他有關念佛思想之著述甚多,其中《楞嚴經勢至念佛圓通章疏鈔》為歷代註疏《楞嚴經勢至念佛圓通章》篇幅最長的著作,其重要性在於以華嚴思想詮釋彌陀念佛法門。續法以華嚴思想闡述彌陀淨土法門,尤其以華嚴思想貫攝持名念佛要義,並以華嚴五教判來判攝念佛法門通於「終、頓、圓」三教。本文主要討論續法在《楞嚴經勢至念佛圓通章疏鈔》開首的〈疏〉文所言「是心作佛,心不念而佛不作;即佛顯心,佛不稱而心不顯」,以及此〈疏〉文之下的〈鈔〉文,作出詮釋。研究顯示,續法對於「是心作佛」的修持詮釋,乃以「持名念佛」為下手處,進而體證念佛三昧。華嚴思想的屬性,屬於如來藏的佛性系統,因而,續法亦強調「若欲作佛,須當念心」,以及「若欲顯心,須當念佛」的方法,作為詮釋進路,勸誡眾生念佛,不斷行持。可見,續法以華嚴「理體」、「事修」二者無間的圓融思想,來詮解彌陀法門。
As a teacher who revived the Huayan school during the Qing dynasty, Xufa wrote numerous treatises on mindfulness of the Buddha. One of these is the Annotated Commentary on Mahāsthāmaprāpta’s Perfect Understanding through Mindfulness of the Buddha, which is the longest commentary on the Surangama Sutra’s Chapter on Mahāsthāmaprāpta’s Perfect Understanding through Mindfulness of the Buddha. The main point explains the mindfulness of Amitābha Buddha from a perspective of Huayan thought. Xufa explained the method of Amitābha’s Pure Land through Huayan philosophy, focusing on the core meaning of mindfulness of the Buddha through reciting his name, and using Huayan’s fivefold categorization of teachings to show that mindfulness of the buddha encompassed the Three Teachings (gradual, sudden, and complete). This essay primarily discusses Xufa’s opening commentary in the Annotated Commentary on Mahāsthāmaprāpta’s Perfect Understanding through Mindfulness of the Buddha, which states “The mind attains the Buddha; if the mind is not mindful, then the Buddha is not attained. The Buddha reveals the mind; if the Buddha is not invoked, then the mind is not revealed.” The annotation on this commentary explains it further. Research has revealed that in his explanation of “the mind attains the Buddha,” Xufa saw mindfulness of the buddha through reciting his name as an entry through which one could attain Buddha Mindfulness Samadhi. Huayan thought is a part of the Tathagatagarbha system, so Xufa also emphasized that “if one seeks to become a buddha, one must be mindful of one’s own mind” and that “if one wishes to reveal the mind, then one must be mindful of the buddha.” He emphasized this as a method, encouraging sentient beings to be mindful of the buddha and continuously practice. Thus, Xufa used Huayan’s understanding of the inseparability of ultimate essence and provisional cultivation to explain Amitābha’s Dharma method. |
