| 抄録 | ‘대기설법(對機說法)'의 오랜 전통이 21세기 한국의 도시사회에 독특하게 표출되고 있는 것이 바로 「풍경소리」를 통한 포교이다. 풍경소리는 1999년 <(사)한국불교종단협의회부설 법음을 전하는 사람들의 모임 「풍경소리」>가 설립되면서 서울지하철공사 소속 115개 역사에 460개의 게시판을 설치 완료함으로써 출범하였다. 지금은 그 게시판의 수가 2300을 넘어섰으며, 불교인뿐만 아니라 이웃종교인과 일반인에게도 애독되고 있다.
한 지하철 역사에는 두 편의 풍경소리 글이 게시되고 대략 3주에 한 번씩 교체되는데, 지금까지(2009년 7월 기준) 총 67명의 필진이 238여 편의 풍경소리 작품을 썼다. 풍경소리 글은 작가들의 순수한 창작과 불전에 나오는 내용의 각색, 그리고 경전에서 발췌한 것으로 삼분(三分)된다. 또한 풍경소리의 문학적 형식은 시, 수필, 우언(寓言=寓話), 잠언 등으로 구분될 수 있다. 특히 문학계에서는 「풍경소리」에 의거한 새로운 ‘불교우언'의 가능성이 탐색되고 있다.
「풍경소리」는 치열한 경쟁과 속도, 끝없는 욕망에 지친 시민들에게 열차를 기다리는 1～2분을 통해 절간의 풍경소리와 같은 휴식과 평화, 진지한 자기성찰의 시간을 제공한다. 풍경소리의 내용은 크게 ‘생활의 지혜'에 관련된 내용, ‘마음의 위안과 여유'를 주는 내용, ‘자기 성찰'에 관한 내용, ‘인간관계'에 관한 내용, ‘본래의 참나를 돌아보게 하는 종교적 주제'를 다룬 내용 등, 다섯 가지로 구분된다.
풍경소리는 앞으로도 ‘법음'을 전하는 소리로서의 불교적 정체성을 지켜나가야 한다. 다양한 소재를 가지고 이야기하더라도 궁극적으로는 불교적 세계관, 인생관, 가치관을 드러낼 수 있어야 한다. 풍경소리는 앞으로 선적(禪的)인 내용과 함께 ‘생활의 지혜'에 관한 내용도 좀 더 보충되어야 한다. 또한 더욱 다양한 직업의 필진을 찾아내어, 특정 작가들만이 아니라 많은 사람들이 참여하는 풍경소리가 되어야 한다. 풍경소리의 삽화도 위원회의 충분한 검토 과정과 시민들의 의견 수렴을 거쳐 투명하고 합리적으로 선정되어야 한다. 그리하여 풍경소리가 불법홍포를 위한 선교방편의 현대적 상징으로서 더욱 발전해 가기를 기대한다.
The long tradition of “Daegisulbup"(a sermon by the mental capacities of listeners) is expressed in 21st century Korean society in the form of propagation through Pungkyungsori (The Tinkling of Wind-bell). Pungkyungsori was established in 1999 when was formed and 460 bulletin boards were installed in 115 stations of Seoul Subway Public Corporation. Currently, the number of the bulletin boards increased to over 2300, and the boards are frequently read not only by Buddhists, but also people with other religions.
In every subway station, two Pungkyungsori writings are posted, and the writings are changed every 3 weeks. Until now, 67 writers of Pungkyungsori produced 238 writings. The writings can be divided into 3 types: pure creation, dramatization of the contents of Buddhist scriptures, and extracts from Buddhist scriptures. Poetry, essay, allegory, and aphorism are the main form of the literature. Especially in the literary world, the writings of Pungkyungsori have showed the possibility of the creation of “Buddhist allegory" as an independent genre.
When passengers are waiting for their train for 1 or 2 minutes, Pungkyungsori provides rest, peace, and time for self-examination to the modern citizens who are tired of fierce competition, speed, and endless desire. The content of Pungkyungsori can be classified into 5 types: stories about the ‘wisdom of life', stories that soothe your heart and give you composure, stories about ‘self-examination,' stories about ‘human relationships,' and stories about ‘religious topics that makes us contemplate on our true selves.'Pungkyungsori has to maintain the Buddhist identity and remain as a ‘sound' that spreads Buddhist sermons. Although talking about various topics, it ultimately should be able to reveal the Buddhist way of world view, life, and value.
Pungkyungsori has to supplement on the contents about Buddhism and the wisdom of life. It also has to look for writers of various fields in order to become a bulletin board not only for certain writers, but for everybody. The selection of the illustrations should also be decided transparently and rationally through the committees review process and the collective opinion of the people. With these accomplished, I hope that Pungkyungsori will continue to develop as the modern symbol of missionary means for Buddhist publicity.
