| 抄録 | 남북조 시기에 혜영이 찬술한 『대지도론소』는, 용수의 저작으로 구마라집이 번역한 것으로 전해지는 『대지도론』의 현전하는 최초의 주석서이다. 다만 현전하는 주석서는 전체24권으로 추정되는 본소 가운데 7권만이 전해지고 있어서, 전모를 파악하는데는 유감스러운 점을 지니고 있다. 그러나 본소는 시기적으로나 문헌의 성격상 남북조 시대 불교사상의 조류를 아는데 중요한 단서를 제공하는 문헌이라는 것은 분명하다.
연구결과에 따르면 이 주석서는 혜영 단독의 저술이라기보다 그의 스승 도안을 비롯하여, 그 이전까지 북조에서 지도론사로 일컬어진 집단의 전승적 주석 성격을 지니고 있다. 『대지도론』은 반야경의 주석서이지만, 이에 대한 주석서인 본소는 남북조 시대의 중국불교사적 상황을 반영하듯이 반야중관적 해석만을 보이지는 않는다. 오히려 여래장 사상, 초기 유식설 등의 용어를 가지고 반야중관계 용어를 설명하는 곳도 적지 않다. 본 논문은 『대지도론소』에 인용된 경론을 구별하고 분석하여 특징을 살펴보고, 그 가운데 보리유지 계통의 지론사상과의 관계성을 고찰한 연구이다. 드러난 단서로만 본다면 지도론사들은 구마라집과 같은 정도로 보리유지 계통을 『대지도론』과 연결하고자 했다고 보이며, 보리유지를 매우 존중하는 모습을 드러낸다. 또한 같은 백과사전적 성격을 띠는 지론학의 『대승의장』과의 관련성이 높다고 할 수 있는 전거를 밝혔다. 이는 지도론사들이 북조의 지론사들과 활발하게 교류하였고, 그들과의 사상적 교류가 본소를 주석하는데도 영향을 주었을 가능성을 보여주는 것이다.
This article purports to investigate briefly Huiying (慧影, ?-600)’s Commentary on the Dazhidulun (大智度論疏) in order to comprehend the situation of Buddhism within the Northern Dynasties in the 6th century China. Huiying compiled the 24 fascicles of the Exposition of the Dazhidulun (大智度論解) by Shi Daoan(釋道安), a famous master on the Dazhidulun (大智度論) in the Northern Zhou(北周) Dynasty, which is estimated to have become the basis of his own extant work of the Commentary on the Dazhidulun (大 智度論疏). Since, according to the Sequel to the Biographies of Eminent Monks (續高僧傳), Huiying died in the year of 600, the Commentary on the Dazhidulun should have been completed by the year of 600 at least. In spite of the importance of this work, the concrete study of it has been extremely sparse. This work is recorded to have been composed of 24 fascicles, although only 7 fascicles remain today, only 3 fascicles among them remaining without any loss. This article focuses upon analyzing the extant commentary through its citations of scriptures and treatises, especially upon the connection between Bodhirucci (菩提流支, ?-535) and the Dilun (地論) doctrines.
The prominent trait of the cited scriptures and treatises in the Commentary on the Dazhidulun is found in its intensive use of the translations by Kumarajiva (鳩摩羅什, 344-413), Dharmarakṣa (曇無讖, 385-433), Guṇabhadra (求那跋陀羅, 394-468), and Bodhirucci (菩提流支). In addition, according to the extant fascicles, this work is peculiar in citing almost nothing from the translations by Paramārtha (眞諦, 499–569). Therefore, its contents in relation with tathāgatagarbha and early doctrines of the Consciousness-Only (vijñapti-mātra) School are ascertained to have been connected with the translations by Guṇabhadra and Bodhirucci. Especially, about Bodhirucci, some expressions are found to put almost the same emphasis on him as on Kumarajiva. In addition, this work appears to have close relations with the Dachengyizhang (大乘義章) by Huiyuan (慧遠, 523-592) at the temple Jingyingsi(淨影寺) who is known to have achieved the great synthesis of the Dilun doctrines along the line of Bodhirucci. In short, the earliest commentary on the Dazhidulun as a commentarial work on the Prajñāpāramitā Sūtras appears to have been closely related rather with the ideas of the Dilun doctrines than with the ideas of Chinese Sanlun (三論) studies and Prajñāpāramitā studies. |
