Hsing Yun’s Hundred Saying Series is a record of Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s seventy years of work. It relates the wisdom he has accumulated in propagating the Buddhist teachings. The author believes that Hsing Yun’s Hundred Saying Series encapsulates the forms of Buddhist conduct required in this age, matching the circumstances of our epoch, and providing a great variety of solutions by means of his own examples. Although the lessons may not come easily to most, people of the modern world will certainly be able to aspire to his wisdom. The author will analyze pearls of wisdom in Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s words about the Dharma, as well as highlight how his words are suffused with the wisdom and aspiration to attain awakening. Venerable Master Hsing Yun speaks precisely and encapsulates the heart of the Dharma for the modern day. This paper will also review and discuss the second book of the series, Philosophy of Being Second.
