從《雲禪畫》之創作實踐談星雲大師人間佛教之善巧方便=A Discussion on Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s Skillful Means in the Medium of the Visual Arts: A Case Study of “Cloud Chan Art”
This paper briefly describes the artistic style of “Cloud Chan Art,” as well as its development and dissemination by Venerable Master Hsing Yun. It will also discuss Cloud Chan Art along various lines, including its succession through the Chan lineage, the aesthetics of Chan, the Chan practitioner’s pursuit, and their techniques. In addition, it will use as its primary resources Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s Chan Stories and collections of the verses of past Chan masters, to better understand how he sees the relationship between Chan and art, the ideal and actualization, and the word and character of Chan art. Thus, this paper will work towards a greater understanding of the relationship between Chan, Chan practitioners, and Chan art.
In this paper, the techniques of Cloud Chan Art and the technique of creating resemblances of images to symbols will be investigated. During contemplation, the most important thing is that one must keep one’s composure and allow conflicting phenomena to be at harmony – the same applies to artistic creation.
