In modern times, lay Buddhist organizations in Shanghai find themselves in a complex era and environment. With regard to transmission modes of Buddhist culture, useful explorations in diversity have been carried out to find ways for traditional Buddhism to develop and survive in contemporary society. These include the establishment of newspapers and magazines, radio stations, and other media institutions. In addition, public Buddhist libraries have been set up, and Buddhist culture promoted through vegetarianism. These attempt to provide a systematic solution in leading a Buddhist lifestyle in contemporary society. These explorations and innovations not only promote the modern transformation of traditional Buddhism, but also provide a powerful annotation and example for the theoretical system of Humanistic Buddhism, as well as a practical reference and realization of the path.
