Given the many instances of religious fervors, conflicts, and dialogues since the end of the twentieth century, this paper highlights the fundamental values of religious beliefs that often unfold into religious conflicts. In terms of religious conflicts, scholars have proposed the concept of “dialogue” as a possible resolution. Yet, the results are not obvious. Based on the idea of “fellowship,” Venerable Master Hsing Yun addresses religious conflicts to achieve a possibility of religious harmony through “When Buddha Meets the Gods” event organized by the Fo Guang Shan Buddha Museum. “Fellowship,” as the foundation for religious exchange, can accomplish Martin Buber’s “I and Thou” relationship model instead of “I and it.” This is prevalent through the “parade formation” ( 陣頭 ) and “rituals” ( 儀式 ) performed by the devotees. It actualizes “sacredness” in the secular moment and brings forth the peculiar experience of “sacred and profane as one.” This leads to an experience of exchange, acknowledgement and respect between religions, making religious harmony possible.
