The religion, The Teaching of Three Levels, was a Buddhist sect prevailing from Sui Dynasty to the early Tang Dynasty, and it suffered not only political oppression but also repulsion from other Buddhist sect. Although having been extinct for many centuries, The Teaching of Three Level is noticed due to the book The Reaserach on The Teaching of Three Levels(《三階教之研究》) written by the Japanese scholar. Yabuki Keiki. This research aims at the contention and assertion between this sect and Pure Land Buddhism, as those two sects pursued the Buddhist practices of Endzeit Dharma but some assertions opposing the Teaching of Three Level were found in the books of Pure Land Buddhism. The Teaching of Three levels is a Chinese Buddhist sect that has been extinct for many centuries with books frequently sanctioned in the Tang Dynasty. Without the Japanese scholar Yabuki Keiki’s research and analysis and British Scholar Stein’s and French Scholar Paul Pelliot’s data collection and unearthed relics of The Teaching of Three Levels in Duanghuang and organization of all historical Japanese collection of books of The Teaching of Three Levels, it would be extremely difficult to have a quick understanding on the Teaching of Three Levels. In this research, two books, Buddhist Doctrine of The Teaching of Three Levels (《三階佛法》) & Teachings And Practices That Arise In Accordance With The Capacity(《對根起行法》) among few available historical data nowadays, are selected to conduct comparisons with such books Pure Land Buddhism as Explanations on the doubts of Pure Land (《釋淨土群疑論》)Buddha Recitation Mirror(《念佛鏡》) Uniformity Buddhism Doctrine Statement(《連義述文贊》) & Rudiments in Western Heaven(《西方要決》)to expatiate why those two sects regarded the Endzeit Dharma as the most appropriate doctrine with the discrepancy that there is a repulsion between those 2 sects. It is also interpreted in this research that all Buddhist sects’ collection of sutras keep some of the Pure Land Buddhism’s opposing assertion against the Teaching of Three Levels except . It is also analyzed in this research that why those two sects held contentions toward each other while believing in the Buddhist doctrine of Endzeit Dharma. In addition to that both the data of Chinese historical collection and Japanese Buddhism concerning the Teaching of Three Levels are integrated and analyzed in this research, past academic research and the commentaries of the Teaching of Three Levels described in the Pure Land doctrine of Tripitaka are also cited as the reference in this research.
