Nursing work is different from the general career. It requires shift working in order to provide patients with uninterrupted care. Nursing has its particularity. For example, nurses need to face the variety of patient’s condition from different department, and the emotional response of patients' family members. They also need to deal with their colleagues, and cooperate with the rules which set up by the hospital. These can all be the causes for nurses to feel stressful and unwell.
This study took six religious nurses as the study object. Through the in-depth interviews, it focused on the individual's religious experience in discussing the process towards a nursing career, when faced with difficulties or stressful in work and life, how the meaning and influence of religion on individuals is demonstrated in their work life, providing assistance and support.
The study result is that after meeting the bottleneck of working life and the stress of life, the six nurses will go through the process of turning from the external world to the spiritual world, thus discovering the place where they can truly settle down. That is, the reliance of the spirit of the individual, and the way to the salvation of religion. When religion plays a role in the individual, everything you see is with new meaning. Although stress feelings vary from person to person, painful experiences will encourage individuals to seek religious forces in an attempt to transform internal antagonism and conflict into harmony. When it comes to returning to inner spirituality as purpose, it will drive individuals to transcend self-centered pursuits, physical and mental feelings, and have more generous heart and compassion.
