Honan Temple located in Hualien County was established in 1967 by Master Monk Chuan-ching. Monk Chung-ching created “Honan Buddhist Arts” and started his lifelong endeavor to promote Buddhism by producing a series of multimedia Buddhist art works. In order to understand Honan Temple’s contribution and achievements, the author examines "A Study on Buddhist Arts-For Example of Honan Temple in Hualian ," focusing on the temple’s origin, development, history and architecture characteristics. Honan Temple’s innovating and profound buddhist art activities have been carefully studied through in-depth interviews, field investigations and documentary review. Included are architecture, religious activities, literary works, publications, music performances, etc. They were approached and analyzed with historical context in mind. By exploring its “Buddhist art creation,” the author ventures to say that music and literature are employed as a bridge by Honan Temple to promote buddhism.
