Venerable Master Hsing Yun (Hsing Yun), who is the founder of Fo Guang Shan, has inspired the selfless devotion of over 1,000 monastics as well as the ardent support of many lay devotees to assist him in establishing huge Buddhist enterprise of Fo Guang Shan and Buddha’s Light International Association (BLIA) in 50 years. It is worth to deeply understand the philosophy and behavior of his leadership.
This research aimed to determine the Leadership Model of Hsing Yun Humanistic Buddhism underlying the five findings: the three-dimensions extension of Hsing Yun’s Leadership from Eastern Leadership Theory; finding breaking points of the Chaos phenomenon of modern leadership; constructing the Leadership Model of Hsing Yun Humanistic Buddhism; examining the strategies and formative education for exploring the BLIA’s leadership talents and to investigate the application value of The Leadership Model of Hsing Yun Humanistic Buddhism on the leaders of BLIA.
It is a mixture of two research methods: 1.Bibliographic study: To collect, summarize, analyze, compare, and explore the literature on East and West leadership, Hsing Yun Humanistic Buddhism and his leadership issues and BLIA R.O.C.. 2.Questionnaire survey: Using parallel/simultaneous studies design, BLIA Branch presidents and supervisors were selected as the sampling targets. The author got 294 valid samples through physical and online questionnaire collection. then use below statistical methods such as Frequency distribution, T-test, Chi-Squared Test, one-way ANOVA, and Pearson Product-Moment Correlation Coefficient, etc.
It had obtained the following five results: 1.For building the Leadership Model of Hsing Yun Humanistic Buddhism, the author take the three Buddhist religions as the center of the theory, and supplemented by six ideological basis and ten-point strategy. 2.After join the “Hsing Yun Humanistic Buddhism” dimension, the leadership extended to the four dimensions, giving greater freedom to Eastern leadership. 3.Finding the breakthrough points of the five chaotic features of Western leadership. 4.Through the frequency distribution and the P value (by cross comparison) of the basic data and motivation analysis, the research get 12 key points for the development and exhumation of the president of BLIA R.O.C. 5.Using the leader’s leadership experience and Dharma practice questionnaire combined with the qualitative information of the president’s motives, the research find the 9-point application value of the “ the Leadership Model of Hsing Yun Humanistic Buddhism” by the analysis of the ANOVA and Chi-square test with P value less than 0.05.
Through the above researches, we have further verified the value of the Leadership Model of Hsing Yun Humanistic Buddhism. The author believe that through the establishment and promotion of the model, can give leaders a greater dimension of thinking, and lead the organization to exceed chaos to harmony and create a endless space.
