Heaven and Earth create the sect. Sages form the religions. Grand Master Hunyuan learned from Heaven and Earth and founded Weixin Shengjiao (literally the holy religion of the mind). He based Weixin Shengjiao’s principles on laws of Heaven and Earth, with an aim to educate and influence people. Weixin Shengjiao’s principles are also based on mind and feng shui, which derived from I-Ching, or Book of Changes. There are 41 branches, shouldering the responsibilities of introduction, education and passing on the principles of Weixin Shengjiao. The importance of balance is emphasized in I-Ching; thus Grand Master Hunyuan encouraged his disciples to learn ancestor’s wisdom from I-Ching. After studying I-Ching, internalizing it, practicing it, transforming it, and promoting it, people can better understand themselves, others and the principles of the universe. Feng shui, which is closely related to peaceful living condition, is another focus of Weixin Shengjiao. Grand Master Hunyuan educates people about the correct concept of Feng shui and its application, in the hope of improving living conditions so that people can enjoy a peaceful life and thus make a peaceful society. The methodology of this study includes literature analysis and field research. This paper studies the establishment of Weixin Shengjiao and discusses problems and reality that Grand Master Hunyuan faced in his thirty years of promotion. The discussion also includes the origin, the meaning, and the goal of Weixin Shengjiao’s principles. It is hoped that this paper can lay the basis for future study of Weixin Shengjiao.
