知恩《金剛般若經義記》=Zhi-en Jingang boruo jing yiji (Record of the Meaning of the Sutra of AdamantineTranscendent Wisdom); 塵外《金剛經疏》=Vasubandhu Jingang boruo jinglun (Treatise on the Sutra of Adamantine Transcendent Wisdom); 《金剛經》通俗注疏; 天親《金剛般若經論》; 公哲《金剛般若經開玄鈔》
Zhi-en Jingang boruo jing yiji (Record of the Meaning of the Sutra of Adamantine Transcendent Wisdom), is a commentary and subcommentary of Faxiang and Weishi-zong, Jingang jing (the Diamond Sutra). It was lost in China after the Great Anti-Buddhist Persecution and the civil wars at the end of Tang Dynasty. The first volume of Zhi-en wasnt found again in Dunhuang Grottoes until the early 20th century. As the Faxiang and Weishi-zong commentary is rather profound, the Dunhuang Grottoes version Zhi-en, is much easier to comprehend and more suitable for common people, although its value for academic study is rather low. These kinds of commentaries and sub-commentaries represented how influential Jingang Jing was among the common people during the Tang Dynasty. They are also great materials for academic, religious and culture studies of Jingang Jing during the Tang Dynasty. Yet, it is rather unfortunate that few of these commentaries are found. After field research, parts of Zhi-en are found in Kozan-ji in Japan and Cheongju Early Printing Museum. This paper aims to restore the entire volume of Zhi-en by combing the partly volumes found in China, Japan and Korea. It also tries to provide a reference foundation on the writer, year of publishing, place of published, and different versions. And based on our restored version, we then carry out the research on different aspects: starting from preface, yimen, kejing, structures, contents to thoughts. Furthermore, it discovers the character, value and meaning of Zhi-en under the light of academic, religion and culture in Tang Dynasty. This paper concludes that Zhi-en (Yi-Ji) was an easy-to-understand version of Jingang Jing in Tang Dynasty and has been very influential in the Buddhism study for at least five centuries. Although Zhi-en was mainly based on the Jingang boruo jinglun (Treatise on the Sutra of Adamantine Transcendent Wisdom), it has the characteristics of independent commentaries in depth rather than an introduction of Jingang boruo jinglun. It works with Vasubandhu Jingang boruo jinglun, Chen-wai An Annotationof the Diamond Sutra, Gong-zhe Exposing the Secret of the Sutra of Adamantine Transcendent Wisdom to represent a major theme in the system of Weishi Jingang Jin。Zhi-en not only reveals the powerful influence of Vasubandhu Treatise on the Sutra of Adamantine Transcendent Wisdom on Weishi Jingang Jin in central mainland, it also greatly shows the value and characteristics of easy-to-understand commentaries in the academic study of Jingang Jin .
