Archery is a sport that requires a high level of psychological skills for the context of training or competition, which will be made the athletes experience a lot of stress if athletes are not fully prepared it will experience more competition stress and challenges which in turn affects performance. Recently, numerous studies demonstrated the positive effect of mindfulness training on athletes in various aspects, while previous studies also found that executive functioning is associated with mindfulness and sports performance. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to examine the effect of mindfulness-based peak performance (MBPP) program training on archery performance and executive functioning in archers. And explore the relationship among the archery performance, executive functioning and multiple mental states (i.e. dispositional mindfulness, experiential avoidance and rumination thinking). The results form paired sample t-test showed that MBPP program training significantly improved the archery performance and multiple cognitive functions, including the inhibitory aspect of executive functioning. Furthermore, results from one-way ANOVA showed that improvement of multiple negative mental states, including experiential avoidance and negative rumination after MBPP training. In addition, correlation analysis showed that archery performance is positively related to sports-specific dispositional mindfulness, and regardless of general or sports-specific dispositional mindfulness both negatively related to multiple negative mental states. On the other hand, the potential dose-response relationship in mindfulness training, results revealed that mindfulness training producing better effects on dispositional mindfulness and its sub-domain over the four-week (eight time) intervention, and at early intervention that producing better effects on negative mental states (i.e. experiential avoidance and negative rumination thinking). These findings receive to support that MBPP is a promising mental training that may be contributing to optimal athletic performance in archery, and add the mental training to allot more time for brief mindfulness training is recommended before daily training.
