Clan is a folk organization that the ancestors lived together after crossing Taiwan during the period of Taiwan reclamation. It is also a group that the families at the bottom of the early Taiwan society attached to. Since ancient times, the river and the sea have been the birthplaces of the permanent settlements of the people, and they are the evidence of the establishment of human settlements and historical development. As early as the 16th century, there were people from Fujian crossing Taiwan. There are also records of people from Fujian crossing Taiwan to engage in fishing in the 17th century. In 1661, Zheng Chenggong led a group of Fujianese military families to cross Taiwan eastwards, centered on Anping, Tainan, and settled in the northern corner of Houzhen, Yizhu Township, Chiayi County (toady Houzhen Village), Luzicao Zhuang, and Xiajiadong Zhuang regions; it was not until the Qing Dynasty that Fujian and Guangdong clan culture began to migrate to Taiwan. Most of the civil society in Taiwan during the Qing Dynasty was formed by local clans. From Taiwan’s metropolitan areas to villages, from the Fu-Lao settlement to the Hakka kitchen, the traces of surname’s clan shrines can be seen to this day. After hundreds of years of social changes in Taiwan, despite the gradual decline of local clan power, many clans still maintain traditional ancestor worship rituals. Clan worship is a traditional, educational and exemplary intangible cultural asset value of Taiwan culture, and it is necessary to conduct historical research and cultural preservation discussions. In this thesis, the historical development of local clans in Taiwan during the Qing Dynasty will be sorted out through the research results of scholars in Europe, America, China, Taiwan and Japan, as well as local literature and genealogies. The scope of this study will set such surname clan settlements from the ancestors of Anxi County, Fujian during the Qing Dynasty who came to Taiwan and settled in Yijhu Township, Chiayi County, Lucao Township and Houbi Dist., Tainan City, reconstructed after crossing Taiwan, as the protagonist of this thesis. Based on the correspondence of historical documents and field investigation, centering on the historical development of clan settlements built by the most Anxi ancestors in Southern Taiwan in the Qing Dynasty, finally the author presents the clan construction and social changes as the achievements of this thesis.
