In this treatise, four types of historical Dunhuang variational texts about the generals of Han Dynasty are included: "The Variational text of General Wan Lin of the Han Dynasty", "Biography of Catching Ji Bu", " The Variational text of Li Ling" and "Biography of the Prince Liu Xiu of Western Han Dynasty" and there are 24 manuscripts. All the protagonists of the stories were the generals of the Han Dynasty, their deeds were recorded in the historical biography of the Han Dynasty. However, the contents in the variational texts are very legendary and dramatic, which is different from the historical texts from Han to Tang. Therefore, we study the relationship between these variational texts about the generals of Han Dynasty and the historical texts in depth. Firstly, we describe each manuscript, and then interpret the original narratives of these manuscripts, present their true face clearly and solidly and summarize eight arguments to facilitate subsequent research of the relevant content of these manuscripts. Secondly, via the comparative research method and the adjusted intertextual research method and considering of both synchronicity and diachronicity, we compare and expound the relationship between these variational texts and the related historical biography, to explore the diachronic differences of comments of these characters and their deeds by people of different era; or the contemporary synchronic relationship of these related characters and their deeds in the same (similar) era, and then summarize six results. Thirdly, through different intertextual methods, we define and analyze the intertextual relationship between variational texts and its prototypes of historical biography, to deepen the innovative plot of each variational texts of generals of Han Dynasty. Finally, according to the contents of the variational texts, the thematic characteristics are discus, as well as its influence on writings of the same subject in subsequent era.
