This thesis focuses on the propagation and practice of the Lotus Sutra of Wonderful Dharma in Vietnam. The thoughts and doctrines of the Lotus Sutra of Wonderful Dharma plays an important role in Mahayana Buddhism. Rising and development of the Sutra has immense influence. Why is The Lotus Sutra of Wonderful Dharma highly accepted in Vietnam? This article mainly studies the translation, propagation, and practice of the Lotus Sutra. The Lotus Sutra is called the Sutra of Enlightenment. From ……we know, whether in or out side the Lotus Religious Assembly at that time, all beings in this land and other land are benefited in the present, the future, and the Dharma is consummated. So no matter in the past, present or future, all beings on the earth, in the heaven, etc. can get it and feel the meaning of The Lotus Sutra. Finally, why is The Lotus Sutra highly accepted in Vietnam? It is mainly owing to the contribution of the contemporary Vietnamese monk Zhijing’s propagation of the Lotus Sutra in Vietnam. The Lotus Sutra was part of Buddha’s forty-nine years teaching, and in the final period the Buddha proclaims the wonderful dharma of One-vehicle, ekayana. By way of great expedience, the Buddha exhibits teaching of both the original and the trace for the sake of enlightening all beings with Buddha wisdom and will of great compassion with reveal of the wonderful dharma of the Four Principles, siddhanta. The Lotus Sutra teaches us that we are facing all kinds of sufferings in our lives. As long as we sincerely recite the holy name of Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva, Avalokitesvara will perceive and go to rescue. Regardless of men or women, the rich or the poor, the noble or the ordinary, the Buddha nature of all beings are the same. All could be a Buddha in the future. We can still become Buddhas through our own efforts. We are all future Buddhas, only by constant diligence can we get away from our troubles and pertain the supreme Bodhi. This article discusses the influence of The Lotus Sutra and this sutra on Vietnamese culture, education, art, and life in Vietnamese monasteries. Intoday’s era, it is mostlikely to have access to a variety of modern equipment and it is easy to be guided by outsiders. In th is golden age, people have the best opportunity to expose to all kinds of modern technological inventions so it is easy to be influenced by the external world. The author also hopes to share what she have learned to inspire all affiliated beings, and to strengthen my own practice (six roots) of The Lotus Sutra, Master Merit Characters, to teach and benefit affiliated people.
