Religious tourism is the oldest form of tourism known. It enhances one’s spiritual life and knowledge about the world. Religious tourism has become increasingly popular around the world. However, in Taiwan’s academia, there is so far no study on Buddhist tourism to Sri Lanka. It is a shame considering that Sri Lanka has one of the oldest Buddhist tradition in the world and attracts many Buddhist pilgrims every year. This paper aims to fill that gap. It will discuss Buddhist tourism to Sri Lanka by exploring the difference between religious tourists and non-religious tourists, the glaze of travelers to Sri Lanka, the knowledge of Sri Lankan Theravada tradition before and after the tour to Sri Lanka and so on. The paper will use the visual research, with the aid of travelers’ photos, as the method of data gathering.
