摘要台灣人稟持著中國儒家的思想,對於死者的身後大事不敢輕忽,俗話說:「除死無大事」,民間一般的喪葬科儀,大多是聘請道教的道士或是佛教的和尚來做功德,不過其實還有一種介於佛道之間,生活方式亦與一般大眾相同的「釋教法師」,釋教以佛教為主,兼容道教和民間信仰,是陪伴許多人人生最後一段路的重要角色。而喪葬做功德的過程中,有段「表演」目連救母中的挑經科儀,其全段儀式所講究的主要是一個「孝」字。
目連救母故事源於佛經《佛說盂蘭盆經》,而後依據經典,甚至成為一種風尚,衍伸出於農曆七月十五搬演超渡祖先及亡魂的科儀,流傳至今。而從宋代搬上舞台成為「目連救母」雜劇後,至今仍於民間盛行不衰。目連戲的主旨含括了許多各地富有特色的文化、宗教、民俗、倫理思想觀念,特別是儒、釋、道「三教合一」的獨特思想內涵。
筆者從事殯葬業多年,從原先的旁觀者,進一步對於傳統科儀產生莫大之興趣,到最後深深被這些傳統思想所吸引,深知傳統科儀決不是徒具形式,更不是迷信無據,而是一種倫理觀念的延伸與蛻變。在研究過程之中,深刻領悟到儀式只是表象而已,最終仍須回歸到中國人對於生死的哲學態度,儀式或多或少帶著些許對鬼神的敬畏,但更多的是思索人生的倫理問題以及生死態度。筆者相信舉行喪葬法事並非「迷信」的行為,而是有其不可磨滅的實際價值存在,除了對死者的追念之外,其實更重要的是對於生者的情緒管理、人生傳承,以及教化下一代的積極作用,這才是對於喪葬儀式的重要認知。
本文共分六章。第一章〈緒論〉,旨在說明研究動機、相關研究文獻回顧、研究範圍及方法,以及研究流程等相關敘述。第二章作為背景資料之研究與概述,即桃園地區的釋教概況。第三章〈挑經流程與其意義〉從喪葬科儀談論到挑經的儀式,並敘述挑經的文獻資料。第四章〈「挑經」科儀之教化意義〉、第五章〈「挑經」科儀之哲學意義〉,從教化、哲學這兩個角度對挑經做全面性的論述。最後第六章再將整本論文總結。

Maudgayayana theme underlies many of the unique concept of culture, religion, folk customs, ethics, especially Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism, "three-in-one" unique content.
I engaged in the funeral industry for many years, from spectators, great interest in further investigations into the traditional instrument and finally deeply attracted to these traditional ideas, know the traditional instrument is not formalistic, and certainly not superstition-free, but rather as an extension of ethics and transformation. In conducting the study, deeply understand the ceremony only the appearance, and ultimately must return to the Chinese philosophy of life and death, the ceremony more or less with little fear of ghosts, but more often it is the ethical issues of life and death. I believe hold funeral ceremonies were not "superstitious" acts, but has its indelible actual value exists, in addition to dishonor the dead, is actually more important for managing emotions, life heritage of the living, and teach the next generation of positive effects, this is for the funeral of an important cognitive.
This paper is divided into six chapters. Chapter one was poor and come, aimed at explaining the motivation, the range of relevant research literature review, research and methods, as well as the research process and other related accounts. Chapter II as the background of the research and outline, shijiao profile the Taoyuan area. Chapter III picked through the process and its significance from the ritual of the funeral ritual comes to pick, and picked by literature data. The fourth chapter "pick" enlightenment meaning of the instrument, the fifth chapter entitled "pick" the philosophical significance of the spirit, teaching, philosophy of these two angles to pick through comprehensive discussions. Finally sixth chapter throughout the thesis summed up.
