Venerable Master Hsing Yun advocated for Humanistic Buddhism throughout his life. In 2000, he founded "The Merit Times" to propagate Humanistic Buddhism. Operating for 24 years, "The Merit Times" has established its unique style. Unlike traditional Buddhist publications that emphasize worldly perspectives, "The Merit Times" mixes modern approaches with secular contexts to make it accessible to a broader audience of Buddhists and readers. From the media perspective, although "The Merit Times" functions as a comprehensive daily newspaper, it doesn't adopt commercial media tactics. Instead, it focuses on moral education, promoting media literacy such as truth, kindness, and beauty. This research will focus on "The Merit Times" to investigate how it frames its news content to disseminate the Humanistic Buddhism philosophy of Venerable Master Hsing Yun, aiming to purify people's minds. The research is expected to employ the document analysis to organize and analyze the ideological context of the founder Venerable Master Hsing Yun, the evolution of Humanistic Buddhism, and the principles of running the newspaper. Additionally, through framing theory analysis, this research will summarize and sample news texts, and analyze topic categories. The study will also include semi-structured interviews(guided interviews) with newspaper professionals. This research will, from four dimensions: organizational level framework, individual cognitive framework, news text framework, and message source framework, utilize the News Framing Theory of Communication studies, examining how "The Merit Times" frames news content with Humanistic Buddhism Ideology and delivers it to readers. This study found the importance of delivering Humanistic Buddhism ideology: promoting the cultural inheritance of Buddhist ideology, advocating ethical values of compassion service, reporting on the dissemination strategies of Buddhist public welfare, and contributing to interdisciplinary research dissemination, and providing new perspectives and inspiration for religious studies and social studies. Through in-depth study, the researcher hopes to academically, professionally, and concretely formalize the habitual practical operations, and provide effective and comprehensive methodological strategies when applied back to practical scenarios, finding the sustainable development path of "The Merit Times," realizing the initial intention of this research.
