This study focuses on the theme of fulfilling the compassionate vows of Bodhisattva Ksitigarbha throughout the Ākāśa (infinite space), exploring how painting creation can convey Buddhist teachings and express the spirit of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva's not only patient and immovable, but also deep and profound. In Buddhism, Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva is revered as a Bodhisattva with the great vow to save sentient beings. His vow, "Until the hells are empty, I vow not to become a Buddha," epitomizes boundless compassion and unwavering determination. As one of the profoundly significant Bodhisattvas in Buddhism, the image and stories of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva have been widely depicted in Buddhist art, with numerous works distributed worldwide such as in China and Japan. However, there remains much discussion on the concrete manifestations of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva's compassionate vows and how to convey his spirit through painting creation. Therefore, this study aims to explore Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva's conduct, imagery, and related anecdotes to complete a series of creations titled " Ākāśa of Great Compassionate Vows." The main objective of this study is to integrate the spirit of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva's compassionate vows into painting creations and convey messages of compassion and salvation to viewers through the artworks. Additionally, by delving into Eastern Confucianism, Buddhism, and Daoism, as well as the Western philosophical concepts of the three selves and three layers of consciousness, this study aims to deeply present the profound meanings within Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva's compassionate vows. Using a practice-based research approach, this study employs 16 paintings to propagate the actions of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva "Opening the gate of the hell with the golden Khakkhara and shining through the heavenly net with the Cintā-maṇi." The accuracy and adherence to Buddhist teachings in painting creation are ensured through references from Buddhist scriptures and relevant literature. Simultaneously, the author explores and interprets the compassionate vows of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva through various styles and techniques during the process of self-exploration and discovery, which is a great honor to complete these paintings.
