Objective: This study aims to explore the grief response and bereavement adjustment experience of Buddhist believers and the role of Buddhist faith in the grief adjustment process of bereavement. The research question is mainly divided into the following four aspects, namely “the bereavement response of Buddhist believers,” “influence factors of Buddhist beliefs on bereavement adjustment,” “other influencing factors of bereavement adjustment” and “growth and transformation of Buddhist believers after adjustment to bereavement.” Methods: This research adopts a qualitative research method. Four interviewees are invited to share their life stories. Through interviews, the interviewees are allowed to narrate their life experiences in the form of stories to describe the Buddhist beliefs and other influence factors in the process of bereavement adjustment. The research used the narrative analysis method proposed by Lieblich (1998) to analyze the text from two models: the "holistic-content" analysis model and the "categorical-content" analysis model. Results: The grief reaction shown by Buddhist believers after bereavement has its own uniqueness and commonality. Through the influence of Buddhist concepts of life and worldview such as emptiness, dependent co-arising, karma, and liberation from reincarnation, allowing the bereaved to stabilize their confidence when facing the impact of loss, and to increase their own psychological resilience and openness to accept the impermanence of life, discover the positive meaning of death, and turn grief into blessings and rebuild a positive emotional connection with the deceased. In the process of grief adjustment, Buddhist beliefs also help the bereaved to establish the meaning and goals of their lives, cherish the present with a positive attitude, practice diligently, and help others, so as to face life and death calmly. Conclusions & Recommendations: Buddhist beliefs have a positive impact on individuals' reactions to loss and grief when faced with bereavement. Regarding the grief adjustment and treatment of the bereaved, the emotional relationship, social culture and religious background of the bereaved should be assessed, and relevant support resources should be appropriately utilized. Finally, this study makes recommendations for grief counseling as well as further research based on the findings.
