I have attempted in recent years to re-examine the thought systems of Buddhist Ontology and Hermeneutics (佛教本體詮釋學). This research begins with an elucidation of the step-by-step development of the profound ideology concerning Conditioned Arising (Dependent Origination,緣起的深義) in the history of Mahayana Buddhism. It addresses the evolution of thought and the construction of the basic theories concerning the dynamics of Emptiness (空的力動) and the dynamics of Buddha-nature (佛性存有力動). There are three sections in this essay. In the first section,I discuss and clarify the doubts concerning the meaning of phrases and sentences in both the studies of Buddhist Ontology (佛教存有學) and Buddhist Hermeneutics (佛教詮釋學). I will also offer my own discussons in response to these doubts. In the second section,I discuss the views and criticisms put forth by other scholars concerning the study of Buddhist Hermeneutics. In the last section,I briefly discuss the study of Buddhist Hermeneutics from my own point of view. In conclusion,I summarize the manner in which the study of Buddhist Ontology and Hermeneutics can be unified with that of Buddhist critical studies. Also,I discuss from my own perspective the significance of this unity in modern Buddhist research methodology in Taiwan.
