“農禪並重”的當代實踐與經驗 ── 以北京龍泉寺為例=The Contemporary Practice and Experience of "Valuing both Agriculture and Zen" :Taking Beijing Longquan Temple as an Example
The institution of valuing both agriculture and Zen is an important institutional innovation of Chinese Buddhist,not only for its ability to resolve or remit the problem of large food demand of monasteries,but for its function of practice platform of Buddha dharma for Buddhists.Being inherited for more than one thousand years,the institution has carried forward among different Buddhism denominations and generated deep and wide influence.In modern society,it’s totally different in economy,politics and ideology environment compared with one thousand years ago,which means the practice of valuing both agriculture and Zen will change inevitably.In this paper,we clarify the background and evolution of the institution of valuing both agriculture and Zen.On this basis,we take Dadixin farm of Beijing Longquan Temple as an example to analyze the practice and experience of valuing both agriculture and Zen in modern society.The special ideas and methods of that farm give us new enlightenments.It may not be possible to popularize this paradigm broadly in short term,but it deserves to be pondered by us at least in concept.
