A Dharma Service in Han Buddhism is a type of religious ritual constituted of elements such as scripture and mantra recitation, hymns, chanting, playing of Dharma instruments; all of which are coordinated with prostrations, hand gestures, and offerings of flowers, incense, and candles. There are two primary elements to a Dharma Service: sounds and body movements. This paper endeavors to reveal the developmental process of Buddhism in China, by analyzing the audio in Dharma Services. Furthermore, it discusses the cultural interaction between Han Buddhism and traditional Chinese culture from an audio perspective.
