摘要
이 논문은 ‘『십지경』의 가장 오래된 두 네팔 산스크리트 사본의 전사(轉寫)—「현전지」 (Ⅰ)’의 후속논문으로서, 앞선 논문이 ⑴십중십이인연관(十重十二因緣觀)에 대한 가장 오래된 두 사본에 대한 전사가 주를 이루었다면, 본 논문은 이후의 “⑵삼삼매부터 ⑶ 10지 모두에 나타나는 정형구의 변주[變奏]”에 대한 전사가 그 범위를 이루고 있다. 각각 A와 B로 명명된 이 두 사본은 『십지경』의 이전 편집자들인 라더와 콘도가 사용하지 않은 사본들로서 각각 후기 굽타 문자의 동부 변종으로 쓰인 6-7세기에 속한 사본과 바르뚜라 네바리로 쓰인 13세기에 속한 사본이다. 우선 본 논문의 ‘Ⅰ. 선행 연구와 논문의 요약’에서는 필자의 이전 논문을 비롯한 선행연구들을 정리하고 앞으로 이 논문이 나아갈 방향에 대해 제시하였다. ‘Ⅱ. 십이연기관(十二緣起觀)으로부터 삼삼매(三三昧)로’에서는 본래 반야경류에서 이질적인 ‘십이연기관’과 ‘공성’을 조화시키기 위하여 『십지경』의 편찬자(들) 혹은 편집자(들)이 어떻게 노력했는가를 살펴보았다. 그리고 그 핵심에는 ‘십이연기관’의 10번째 항목인 ‘[12연기지 각각의 자성이] 존재하지 않음에 순응하는 관찰(abhāvānulomaparīkṣā)’이 있었음을 밝히고, 산스크리트 사본을 포함한 자료들에서 이 ‘존재하지 않음’이 어떠한 과정을 거쳐 개악(改惡)되고 ‘생성(bhava)’으로 수정되었는지에 관한 필자의 가설을 세웠다. ‘Ⅲ 가장 오래된 사본은 항상 가장 오래된 내용을 의미하는가?’에서는 A와 B 사본이 시기적으로 후대인 다른 사본들에 비해 내용상 후대의 서술을 가지고 있으며, A사본에만 나타나는 독특한 서술은 바수반두의 『십지경론』등과 비교하여 살펴볼 때, 주석적 요소가 첨가된 것이라는 점을 밝혔다. 특히 A 사본에서는 ‘승가’와 ‘보살’과 ‘보살행’을 수식하는 ‘불퇴전 [보살의](avaivarttika)’와 ‘동료(sahāya)’ ‘광대한(vipula)’이 10지 각각에서 셋 모두가 나타나거나 혹은 셋 모두가 없거나, 셋 중 하나 혹은 둘이 첨가되어 있는 등 그 서술의 양상을 달리한다. 이러한 사실은 본래 이러한 수식어가 여백 혹은 행간의 주석이었는데 이것이 필사자에 의해 본문의 수정으로 이해되어 본문으로 삽입된 결과가 아닌가라고 추정하였다.
As the title of this article shows, it is a follow-up of the previous paper, ‘A Transcription of the Two Oldest Sanskrit Manuscripts of Daśabhūmikasūtram in Nepal: the 6th abhimukhī nāma bodhisattvabhūmiḥ (Part Ⅰ)’, which includes a transcription of the 6th Bodhisattva’s stage of MS A and MS B up to the investigation of the Twelve links of Dependent Origination with 10 aspects. Chapter 3 of this paper is comprised of a transcription of the rest part, from the trayaḥ samādhayaḥ beginning with śūnyatāsamādhi up to the end of this stage. In the second chapter, I tried to show how the compiler(s) or editor(s) of Daśabhūmikasūtram had reconciled the two disparate concepts, i.e., the emptiness (śūnyatā) and the dependent origination (pratītyasamutpāda); to be exact, how they had assured readers or audiences that one can attain the three kinds of samādhis through the contemplation of the 10 kinds of the Twelve links of Dependent Origination. At the core of this process, there would be the examination in accordance with non-existence [of the intrinsic nature of the twelve links] ([dvādaśānām aṅgānāṃ svabhāva]-abhāvānulomaparīkṣā), which we can hardly notice only consulting the editions based on the later Nepalese manuscripts. In the third chapter, I established the fact that the oldest manuscript does not always have the oldest contents by providing terms added only in MS A that seem to be influenced by commentaries such as Daśabhūmika- vyākhyānam by Vasubandhu. Among these terms, avaivarttika (irreversible), sahāya (companion), and vipula (vast)—which modify or qualify the saṅga, bodhisattva, and bodhisattvacaryā respectively— are unique in that all of them do not always appear together in other bhūmis of MS A; None, one, two, or all of them appear in the 5th･8th(?) bhūmi, the 1st bhūmi, the 4th･6th bhūmi, or the 2nd･3rd･7th･9th(?) bhūmi in order. This irregularity would indicate the possibility that these terms had been originally marginal or interlinear notes and they were inserted into and transformed the main text by mistake or intentionally.
