出家培訓行為研究─以「泰國法身寺國際短期出家營」為例=Research on the training of monks:using the International Dhammadayada Ordination Program(IDOP) at the Dhammakaya Temple in Thailand as a case-study
The research target of this thesis is the people participating in the International Dhammadayada Training & Ordination Program. The program was organized by the Thai Dhammakaya Temple in 2008, and it has provided people with the opportunity to have short term ordination. The researcher tries to explore how the behaviors and thoughts of the participants were changed through the ordination and whether there are any differences in the behaviors and thoughts of Western and Eastern participants. In order to acquire the results, the researcher used qualitative methods to conduct the study. The methods include in-depth interview, sampling selections, questionnaire survey, field activities recording, data-analysis and others. In the scene of the Training & Ordination Program, researcher tried to record the timeframe, procedure and process of the activities. In the second Chapter, I, firstly, introduce the history of the Thai Dhammakaya Temple. By way of introducing the contributions of the grand master – Ven. Phra mongkolthepmuni (Sodh Candasaro, 1885-1959), the master Nun Chand Khonnokyoong(founder of the temple, 1909-2000), and the abbot of the temple Ven. Dhammajayo (from 1994 onwards) , I illustrate that the history of the temple can be divided into three phrased : beginning (1970-1984), growth (1985-1992), and propagation (1993 onwards). The third Chapter focuses on the brief history of the International Dhammadayada Training & Ordination Program, follows by its concepts, principles, methods and programs. The research design is discussed in the fourth Chapter. The research targets are the people who took part in the ordination program during the period from 29 June 2008 to 27 July 2008. There were Chinese and English classes in the program. I randomly selected six participants, without considering religious differences, as the samples from each of these two classes. They all were studied anonymously. A semi-structured questionnaire was used in the process of conducting the survey. The questions have been designed into three categories within each of which there are two sub criteria. The first category is related to perception and the individual’s perceptions of the ordination. Each respondent’s views on life are explored here, also. The second is relevant to behavior, within which participants habits of keeping precepts and meditating are examined in this category. Emotion is the main topic in the third category. I discuss each research respondent’s emotional management and interpersonal relationships here. The research data was collected from 29 June 2008 to 1 July 2008 as well as from 27 July 2008 till the end of the program. Each interview roughly took 30 minutes, and a recorder was used to tape the responses. All the conversations were typed down for later coding purposes. Following the coding, I have analyzed the codes in order to interpret the responses of the respondents or interviewees. Furthermore, I have also analyzed the differences of the Western and Eastern participant’s behaviors and perceptions. According to the results, the International Dhammadayada Training & Ordination Program does not completely change p
