Buddhism in Malaysia is developed faster and faster in 1950’s. There are three important persons in the development, Ven.Sri Dhamananda (1919-2006) who plays an important role in English translation and Theravada Buddhism, Rev. Zhu Mor who introduced the Chinese Buddhism to public, Ven.Sumangalo (1903-1963) from United State has paid the afford to bring youth society to Buddhism. During 60’s to 80’s, Ven.Sri Dhamananda is the only Dharma Master who used English. Besides, Ven.Sri Dhamananda has brought a lot of development to Malaysian society. For example, he is one of the masters who request Wesak Day to be listed as public holiday from Malaysia government. He established the launching of MIRO which is the organization to unite the different religious in Malaysia. Therefore, Ven.Sri Dhamananda is given the name of ‘Father of Malaysia Theravada Buddhism’.The information above brings the author to have a deep discussion on this important person in Malaysia Buddhism. This article is mainly introducing the brief biography of Ven.Sri Dhamananda, his literary work and the origin of these ideological, and also about his social life. The last part of this article also discuss about his influence to Buddhism in Malaysia, such as Buddhism in universities, the relationship with government, and the interactions with other religions.
