| Abstract | 劉歆為西漢王朝宗室，又為王莽新朝功臣，是學術造詣高深的經學家，又是將儒家理想制度付諸實踐的改革家。漢新之際名儒賢達黨附王莽者甚眾，劉歆不幸被過多地關注和指責，應與此多重身份有關。其與父劉向在政治上非真正對立，二人的基本傾向應是一致的；其與王莽之關係，於漢新禪代之作用，於王莽改制之影響，也遠不像傳統認識的那樣密切、那樣重要、那樣深廣。用「不忠」、「不孝」指責他有失公道。
Liu Xin was a member of the royal family in Western Han, and an important official in Wang Mang s new court. He was both a great scholar and a reformer. People who were discontented with the rule of Western Han had focused their hope on Wang Mang and Liu Xin. Liu Xin was disappointed with Wang Mang and rebelled against him, and as a result was labeled"traitor to both old and new regime". Actually he was not so important as some scholars have resumed, and the censures piled on him are not reasonable.
