Abstract不淨觀是修習「定」的方式之一。亦即藉由觀想屍體的各種狀態來消除內心對肉身的貪欲執著。楊郁文教授認為,不淨(asubha),有不乾淨、不清淨、厭惡之意。淨(subha)則有清淨、愛好、幸福之意。不淨觀對有潔癖者、怕屍體者、尤其對有性衝動者有對治的效果。但是這種修行法門對大多數中國人而言是十分陌生的。曾子曰:「慎終追遠,民德歸厚矣。」對中國人而言,養生送死乃是人生大事,一方面重視喪禮的各種儀節、強調死者的尊嚴;另一方面卻又避談死亡。因此不淨觀並未受到太多注意和使用。在漢傳佛教的典籍中,與不淨觀相關的修行法門也不多,這反而引起了我的興趣,想要更進一步探究不淨觀的完整內容。
本文將以《阿含經》中世尊對不淨觀的開示為主,並參考《清淨道論‧說不淨業處品》中對不淨觀修行法門的細節敘述,藉以建構一個比較完整「不淨觀」的思想。
