Abstract本文處理佛陀觀的演變以及開展,從印度佛教與中國佛教兩者對佛陀觀各有怎樣的發展過程?佛陀在世,說法教化弟子,親自受教見佛身形、聽佛音聲的聲聞弟子,具體感受到佛的偉大人格發自一與己身形無異的人,思維教法時亦不離佛的身語的示現。當佛一入滅,不能親見佛的身影,於是轉而將對佛的永恆思念,投射到佛的舍利、遺物乃至佛曾經遊化的聖地等。雖然佛臨入滅時一再告誡弟子以後當以「法」和「律」為師,當「自歸依」勿「他歸依」。但源於人類內在的宗教渴望以及對佛的永恆思念,佛陀崇拜的方式大致上有兩種發展:一者努力追求可以取代釋迦牟尼的具體的佛陀;二者則是對同一佛陀,區別有「色身」與「法身」的不同。前者是「佛陀觀」的論題,後者則是「佛身論」的內容。佛陀觀在印度有系統性的發展,但佛教從印度傳華之時,大乘、小乘一起傳入,所以很難找出一系統性的中國佛陀觀。因此本論文先談已具有系統的印度佛陀觀,再跟著此系統來考察中國佛陀觀。
