Abstract素食是我國漢傳佛教的一大特色,是佛教飲食文化的核心內容,是佛教養生之道的一個重要組成部分。佛教所謂素食,即不食葷腥。其中葷指蔥、蒜、韭菜等五種氣味強烈(辛臭)的蔬菜,簡稱五辛;腥則指一切動物肉。前者主要是為了清凈身心,不熏擾他人,後者則主要出於佛教的慈悲教義,關愛一切生命,可見佛教的飲食禁忌(包括不飲酒等)範圍比其他宗教都要廣。於是人們不禁會為佛教徒的身體健康而擔心,不少人因此而視學佛為畏途。因此,我們很有必要就素食與健康或素食與養生問題作一番實事求是的深入的探討。
