The exotic theories of Buddhist have produced great impact on the theories of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). Their four principal doctrines about cosmic composition affected the fundamental theories of TCM such as the doctrines of the Primary Qi,Yin Yang and Five Elements. The infiltration of the theory of cosmic composition of Buddhism into the TCM culminated in the comprehensive summary of YU Jia-yan, a medical expert of the late Ming and early Qing Dynasties, and resulted in the famous Yinxie theory. This serves as a brilliant example of cultural exchange in the history of traditional medical theories.
