There is still a fashionable misunderstanding among scholars both in China and abroad about Indian logic. The earliest deductive theory in the history of Indian logic should not be owed to Buddhism, but to the early Nyaya. In fact, Dignaga and Dharmakirti are two summits in the development of Buddhist logic as well as Indian logic. Dignaga lays the groundwork for the first deductive theory in Indian logic, and Dharmaklrti finally transforms Indian logic from analogy to deduction, which is the first time that Indian logic have reached the level of the Western syllogism.
