Abstract佛教自印度傳入中國,中國佛教大德們對印度佛教經過長期地整理髮展,形成具有中國文化特色的八大宗派。而其中,禪凈二宗將大乘佛法的精髓,總攝于簡單切實的圓頓修持法門中,充分表現出中土本有的儒道二家之說尚簡重行的傳統,因而能適應中國的民族文化心理,成為中國漢傳佛教的主流,至今仍表現出茁壯的生命力。

禪凈二宗,禪宗主自力解脫,明心見性,入門掃蕩一切,逢佛殺佛,逢祖殺祖,“佛”之一字,亦無安立之地,並以疑為門徑,有“不疑不悟”的說法;凈土宗則依賴他力救度,以深信為前提,信阿彌陀佛、西方凈土實有不虛,發願往生,一念單提,孜孜念佛不輟,臨終得佛接引,往生西方凈土。兩家的路子似乎是南轅北轍,風格迥然相異,似難兼修或融通。兩家人中,互相是非,尤禪宗人低貶凈土,不乏其徒。但是若深入兩宗的高層次里面,則可見在理論和修持方法上,兩家不但可以融通,而且禪宗人兼修凈土,我們通過對中國佛教史上禪凈二宗關系的考察,發現大有人在。
