Abstract佛教從原始佛教起至阿毘達磨佛教都借因果和緣起的理論來說明諸法的生成和依存的關係,並藉此以否定婆羅門教的不變恒常的主宰者阿特曼 (`atman`). 龍樹和繼承他的中觀學者在說明因果關係時,有別他前佛教學者所說的方式,而是用一種否定的方式來建立因果的關係,乍看之下,龍樹的說法似手有破壞因果道德律的傾向,但實際上諸法間的關係只有在一切物沒實體存在時才成立的. 在常識和科學的立場之下,所建立起的因果. 依存性,是經不起批判的. 對龍樹本人關於道德因果論的具體見解,表現在《中論》第十七章「行為與因果的考察」 (`karmaphala-pariksa`),尤其是二九頌「此行為既不自原因生,也不自無因生. 因此,(行為的) 主體也不存在」,說明將行為,果報等,當作實體來處理的話,依他的生起和存在才會被否定.
