Abstract | 中國禪宗之發展應給予其先期禪者一席相當地位. 中國 禪宗之發展亦是思想史由博轉約之律則,從而拈出今日中國 思想,及今日中國佛教思想發展之契機.
本文按中國禪學各期之主特色分為:信受經典,觀照 般若,方便教行,五家宗風等四個時期. 三祖以前尚保持印 度之禪法;四祖以後漸立中國禪法之特色;五家宗風期無論 制度上,教法上都已純中國化了. 本文均以具體之資料為佐 證,以利讀者之簡擇.
In the development of Chinese Ch'an Buddhism the early masters should be given considerable credit. Chinese Ch'an Buddhism has been developing from complexity to simplicity,as is the rule of development in the history of thought. Herein we may find a clue to the course of development of the present-day Chinese thought in general,and the course of development of the present-day Chinese Buddhist thought in particular.
This paper divides Chinese Ch'an Buddhism into four periods according to their respective major characteristics:periods of believing in and accepting the scriptures, of meditation and `prajna` ,of expedient teachings and practices, and of the special practices of the five sects. Indian methods of dhyana had been preserved up to the time of the third patriarch. Beginning with the fourth patriarch, however,special Chinese Ch'an methods were gradually developed. During the period of the five sects, both the institution and the doctrine of Ch'an were completely sinicized. Substantial materials are provided in the paper to prove this and for the reader's reference. |
