Abstract 四二八窟位於莫高窟南區中段,是敦煌北朝最大的中心塔柱窟。此窟壁畫的圖像內容豐富,其中須達拏太子本生,盧舍那佛,涅槃圖和金剛寶塔這些題材,都是首次在敦煌出現。四二八窟須達拏太子本生圖描繪情節繁多,故事安排好似中原的手卷形式,情節間又以山石樹木分隔。盧舍那佛的袈裟上繪有六道。涅槃圖中釋迦佛雙手平伸,側臥床上,圍繞其身旁的全為弟子。今將這些圖像特徵分別和流傳於中原與西域的兩個圖像系統作一比較,發現四二八窟須達拏太子本生圖,盧舍那佛和涅槃圖的圖像特徵均與西域的系統有別,而和中原的關係密切。學者們根據《李君修莫高窟佛龕碑》,曾推測四二八窟可能為建平公于義所開,然多苦於缺乏具體証據。于義是洛陽人,在保定五年 (565) 任瓜州刺史以前,大多活動於洛陽,關中一帶. 四二八窟新出圖像和中原佛教的圖像關係緊密,或可作「四二八窟可能為建平公開鑿」的一個輔証。
