Abstract緣起思想向來是佛教的核心,而基於觀察角度與解釋的不同,歷代佛教對緣起思想於是發展出所謂的「業感緣起論」,「賴耶緣起論」,「真如緣起論」,「法界緣起論」,及「六大緣起論」等論說. 本文以唯識論書《中邊分別論》為主,旁徵博引其他經論說法; 如《阿含經》,《八十華嚴》,《法蘊足論》,《攝大乘論》等,來探究十二緣起說所真實蘊涵的人生觀與生命哲學. 其旨意無非藉所歸納的所謂三種雜染,二種雜染或七種雜染,說明十二有支是由以虛妄分別的心,心所為所依而生的雜染流轉,從而使修瑜伽行者能如實了知苦因,苦果的雜染相,使透過努力修行,消滅雜染,達到虛妄分別的還滅緣起,亦即安樂幸福的清淨境界.

本文結構以《中邊分別論》相品第十偈與第十一偈的前半文:「覆障故,安立故,又將導故,攝持故,圓滿故,三分別故,受用故,引起故,連縛故,現前故,苦故,(所以) 眾生被苦惱」作為主線索,配合十二緣起各支,推演陳述生命所以苦惱的因由. 此中對識,名色,六入處等各支的解說,究採胚胎學或認識論的立場,決定了是否為賴耶緣起論的重要分野.
