The present study was an attempt to measure Chinese literary creativity in terms of clustering of literary genius to see which period or dynasties marked the growth or decline of literary genius. war-peace characteristics associated with periods were also examined. Names of subjects were obtained from four history books on Chinese literature. The Chinese Creator rating Scale was employed to rate the subjects in terms of the four criterion variables: creativity, influence, versatility, and skill. Raw scores were transformed into T-scores. The range of scores was divided into first, second, and third classes, using ±1.00 SD as cutting points. Growth periods were assessed in terms of continuous appearance of first rated geniuses. Most of the growth periods were characterized by prosperity, or political stability. Several geniuses who lived during the chaotic periods also enjoyed prosperous years of their own. This research failed to find the mean differences among dynasties on the criterion variables, indicating that dynasty could not be used to compare literary creativity. |
