AbstractI Examine early buddhist attempts to reconcile reductionism about persons with judgments of responsibility, and seek to extend their strategy of reconciliation to the problem of freedom and determinism. i claim that if we are reductionists about persons, seeing the person as just consisting in a complex causal series of physical and mental events, then while persons become mere constructs, we need not lose what is important in the notion of actions freely performed by the person.
