Abstract | The paper attempts to provide a brief but complete history of the conceptual development of the madhyamaka system in india from nagarjuna to shantarakshita and kamalashila, including the controversy between the prasangika and the svatantrika schools and the emergence of the synthetic yogacara-madhyamaka school. the madhyamaka system represents the quintessence of the critical attitude in buddhist philosophy. nonetheless, in the course of its development,it exhibited logical and idealistic tendencies as well as analytical ones. |
