AbstractIn the wake of social development, ministers of Korea are reconsidering their traditional hierarchical role which was greatly influenced by shamanism, Buddhism and Confucianism, and developing a new pattern of authority based on a democratic spirit. In chapter 1, the significance and aim of the study are stated. An effort is made to clarify authority in Christianity in chapter 2. Chapter 3 discusses the authority of the pastor in the church. The authority of the pastor in the Korean church is dealt with in chapter 4. The following chapters examine the authority of the pastor in the PCK by means of research and personal interviews (twelve hundred pastors and congregations are included). In conclusion, in order to enjoy pastoral authority, pastors are to destroy authoritarian elements within the church, to develop partnership in God, Christ and the people of God, and enhance competency in pastoral activities.
