Abstract | Growing out of a workshop on zen buddhism and psychoanalysis, sponsored by the department of psychoanalysis of the medical school of the national university of mexico in 1957,the book consists of three lectures which, according to erich fromm in the foreword,"will be of particular value to psychiatrists and psychologists and to many other thoughtful people interested in the problem of man...." in the opening essay,"lectures on zen buddhism," d t suzuki discusses zen buddhism with special reference to its treatment of psychological problems, such as the unconscious and the self. in the second lecture erich fromm undertakes to show how the concepts of zen buddhism are relevant to,suggestive for and clarificatory of the theory and technique of psychoanalysis. in the concluding lecture,richard de martino provides "a general consideration of zen buddhism in its relation to the human situation."
