| Abstract | Mr. Guo argues that though Emperor Asoka did embrace Buddhism as hispersonal religion, the dharma he prescribed for his subjects and urged them toobserve was distinct,both in content and in purpose, from what Buddismpreached, nor was it identical with any other ethic, religion or philosophy ofthe Mauryan age, notwithstanding clear traces of traditional ideas in it.
