Abstract | English translation of the introduction to Rol mo'i bstan bcos Mdo tsam bshad pa [Treatise on music, explained according to the sutras] (Tokyo: Toyo Bunko, 1968) by Sa skya Pandita (1182-1251). Music is approached from the general viewpoint of Mahayana Buddhism -- i.e., as a means of developing wisdom and skill and of helping others -- rather than from the more profound viewpoints of the tantras. |
