AbstractTaiwan has a population of approximately 20 million people, but its crime rate is one criminal offender per 200 inhabitants. Year by year, there is a growing number by youths and juveniles at the junior high school educational level committing crimes. The number of such students who committed crimes reached up to 50% of juvenile delinquents. Among all convicted prisoners, 55% of them are drug addicts. In 1993,the number of drug addicts was 70% higher than the number in 1992. In Taiwan, one per every 20 people is involved in a criminal suit and one out of 10 people are involved in civil suit or criminal lawsuit. The suicide rate for senior citizens exceeds those of the United States, Canada, Norway and Hong Kong. Also, the cases of bribery in March 1993 was 94% higher than in 1992.

In Taiwanese today, chaos and avarice still exist and occupy the hearts of some Taiwanese people. The main reason why this happens is that the people of Taiwan stress for much importance on material comforts and utilitarianism.

According to above statistics and analysis, many people in Taiwan are "sick" and in serious condition. The major reason for such "sickness" is the failure of educational system in Taiwan,to provide self-education for those who are teachers and educators and also their morals. The way of eliminating all aforesaid phenomena is to eradicate the desires of human beings by advocating Confucianism and to fullfil Buddhist enlightenment and dharma gate of liberation that is to eradicate ignorance and then to gain enlightenment. To reach such a goal,it is necessary to emphasize the development of humanistic education in order to rectify the deviations of materialism,by allowing the humanities to serve as a guide for technology.
