Abstract | This is both an analytical and descriptive report on a case study from 7 retreats conducted for Buddhist women during 1992-1994. The unique objective of the retreat has its characteristic to be distinguished from other Buddhist retreats. The organizers planned to combine the retreats to promote the development of both body and mind. At the same time with the technique of psychology combine with Buddhism, group discussions were organized aiming to improve quality in attitude of participants so that they can improve their personality as women working with others.
For the development of body, various methods are implemented i.e. yoga, Ch'i Kong and basic physical balancing techniques. For the development of mind, participants learn from session of chantings, meditation sessions, and dharma-talk. To build up on Bodhisattva's path, a slot of time is provided for participants to work together as a group, this varies from helping each other to help wash their own dishes, clean up toilets, cleaning the yard, etc. In order to bring balancing of mind and body to success is a real art to be developed through passage of time with full awareness. |
