Abstract學佛行者,須具備內外善根方便. 善慧能開發,自能通諸禪定. 通諸定前,須修止,使心安定.

若以散心修習禪定,不能出離欲界攀緣,故行者以先修外善根;外善多門略舉大意五種:一.布施,二.持戒,三.孝順父母師長,四.信敬三寶精勤供養,五.讀誦聽學. 此五種外善可助修禪正定工夫,更易於就範.

尤以第一種布施,是最大的外善資助,因布施必有能捨的悲心. 最後第五讀誦聽學:大乘經典得易入道. 在坐中心淨能明了三藏,是得於聽受讀誦大乘經典,是有德四眾之二. 因易了解必易覺悟,自能對持戒恭敬精勤供養. 則五種外善根都能得顯現.

內善根之培養能通攝一切諸禪,發諸無漏禪定,有五門禪法:一.阿那波那門,二.不淨觀門,三.慈心門,四.因緣門,五.念佛三昧門. 五門禪法:
一.阿那波那門:有三種善根發相不同;數息善根,隨息善根,觀息善根.
(一)數息善根:就是行人修三止:1. 繫緣止,2. 制心止,3. 體真止.
1. 繫緣止:是繫心鼻端,臍間等處,不令馳蕩.
2. 制心止:心若覺觀,制令不起.
3. 體真止:體諸法空,息諸妄慮.
(二)隨息善根發:靜定心中,自然感覺呼息出入長短,寂靜安然,除諸身行,以至心受歡喜.
(三)明觀息善根發者:在欲界未到細靜心中,忽然看到自己身上氣息,能從毛孔出入,能偏全身無障礙,此是通明觀善根發相.
